The Waterloo Commission on Human Rights and the Cedar Valley Diversity Appreciation Team received the Multicultural Leadership and Involvement Award from the Iowa State Education Association. The award was given in recognition for demonstrated commitment to promoting, developing, and nurturing leadership opportunities for persons of diverse ethnic and/or cultural background.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Award

The Cedar Valley Diversity Appreciation Team and Study Circles were awarded the First Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Award by the Iowa Commission on the Status of African-Americans. The award was in recognition of the commitment to promoting the vision of Dr. King by working together for the common good of the community and performing acts of kindness through service to others.
All Star Community Award of Excellence 2000

The City of Waterloo Commission on Human Rights, through its Cedar Valley Diversity Appreciation Team, won The Award of Excellence in the All-Star Community Awards competition. The award, sponsored by the Iowa League of Cities, was given in the quality of life category. Our entry highlighted our work in building and maintaining a Study Circles program in the Cedar Valley community.
The 1999 Iowa Civil Rights Award

The Cedar Valley Diversity Appreciation Team was awarded the Iowa Civil Rights Award. The award was given by the Friends of the Iowa Civil Rights in the area of education. The award was to honor CVDAT for sponsoring Study Circles as a forum to address race and diversity issues.
